The Menlo School boys scored six unanswered goals in the first quarter on the way to a 12-7 nonleague water polo victory over visiting De La Salle in Menlo's annual homecoming match on Friday. Menlo (8-6) had beaten De La Salle by just one goal three weeks ago but put this game out of reach early.

“We are coming off our best game of the season earlier in the week," Menlo head coach Jack Bowen said of Wednesday's 11-8 win over Menlo-Atherton. “My fear going into a big game like this was that the team wouldn’t recover. And they did the exact opposite, coming out right were we left off two days ago.”

Menlo’s team-oriented defense shut down De La Salle with seven players getting steals, including freshman Sam Untrecht with a game-high four. Untrecht also scored two goals, as did senior James Thygesen, while senior Chris Xi led the way with six goals. Junior goalie Tiago Bonchristiano made his official debut with 10 saves, sharing duties with starter Will Crouch. Bonchristiano was ineligible to play until this week after transferring. He was the starting goalie on the Brazilian junior national team.
