Evidently, there’s nothing like playing at home in the Coast Athletic League -– especially if you happen to be wearing a Pinewood football jersey. The Panthers are 4-0 at home this season following a 70-14 blasting of visiting Calvary Chapel on Saturday in Los Altos Hills. It was just the latest impressive victory in Pinewood’s first-ever season of playing eight-man football. Pinewood dominated the visitors from Pacific Grove from the get go as Matt Dawes and Conner Whitlock combined for 220 rushing yards. Dawes gained a season-high 111 yards and scored three touchdowns while Whitlock added 109 and two scores. Junior quarterback Max Lippe completed both his pass attempts for 75 yards, including a 60-yard score to Whitlock. Not to be outdone in the passing department, Whitlock threw three TD passes to Lippe covering 8, 24 and 25 yards. The offensive explosion was helped by yet another fine defensive performance as the Panthers forced six turnovers that resulted in 44 points. Jack Jenke and Peter Gallagher led the defense with nine and eight tackles, respectively. Capping the day’s scoring frenzy was Michael Darrow's two-yard run. Pinewood now plays its final three games on the road, starting next Saturday at Anchorpoint Christian in Morgan Hill.
