Varsity Girls Tennis
Saratoga 4, Palo Alto 3
Date of competition: Thursday, October 2, 2008
The Palo Alto girls' tennis team saw its undefeated season go down the drain following a 4-3 loss to visiting Saratoga on Thursday in a big SCVAL De Anza Division showdown. Both teams went into the match unbeaten in league play and both matched up well during the afternoon. Paly sophomore Janet Liu continued her dominance of league opponents with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Lindsey Marsh, while the Viking doubles teams of Emma Marti-Vrinda Khanna (No. 1) and Gracie Dulik-Sophie Biffar (No. 2) also won in straight sets. All Paly (5-1, 12-1) needed was one more victory, which came down to the No. 3 doubles match. Paly juniors Lauren Mah and Christine Koepnick, however, came up short in a 6-3, 6-3 loss that sealed the win for the Falcons (6-0, 10-1).
