Grant Shoults, a senior at St. Margarita Catholic who announced his verbal commitment to Stanford via his Twitter account in July, qualified for the finals of the 400 meter freestyle, the first event of the FINA World Junior Championships, which opened Tuesday at Singapore’s OCBC Aquatic Centre.
Shoults swam the third fastest qualifying time, completing his heat in 3:51.27. He will be joined in the final, held later Tuesday, by fellow American Matthew Hirschberger.
