Producing one of their most dominant performances of the season, the Menlo School boys opened defense of their title at the CIF NorCal Championships with a 7-0 tennis blanking of Lowell (San Francisco) on Friday at the Natomas Racquet Club outside of Sacramento. The top-seeded Knights (26-1) lost only seven games combined while registering three 6-0, 6-0 victories. William Bori, who didn't see court time during the CCS Team Tournament, played No. 4 singles and produced a straight-set victory. Freshman Clark Safran won at No. 2 singles and Alex Neumann, normally a doubles player, was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 3 singles. Sitting out the match were seniors Victor Pham and Gunther Matta, who usually play at No. 1 and 2 singles. Menlo, which is seeking a seventh straight NorCal crown and its 12th overall, will compete in the semifinals on Saturday at 1 p.m. The championship match is scheduled for 3 p.m.
