Palo Alto junior Eli Givens improved upon his Central Coast Section-leading time in the 100 meters, clocking a 10.84, to help the Vikings hold off visiting Los Altos, 66-61, in a SCVAL De Anza Division track and field dual meet on Thursday. Givens had been leading the section with a 10.86. He also ran a leg on the winning 400 relay that clocked a season-best 43.90. Sam Desre won the 1,600 and 3,200 for Paly in the low-key meet as athletes looked ahead to Friday’s CCS Top 8 Invitational at San Jose City College. Los Altos won all five of the field events and outscored the Vikings, 30-13, in the field to make it close as Paly needed to win the final 1,600 relay to gain five points for the margin of victory.
