The Menlo College softball team picked up its third doubleheader sweep of the season and the second within the Cal Pac on Sunday, sweeping visiting La Sierra, 7-4 and 12-4, at Half Moon Bay High School.
In game one, the Oaks used the big inning to their advantage early, scoring three in the first and two in the second to ignite a seven-run game. They added a run in the each the third and the fourth and held off the La Sierra bats for the remainder of the game to earn the win.
Kimberly Wilburn earned the win for the Oaks, going the distance and allowing four runs on 10 hits, striking out four and walking two.
Regan Rudisill swung the hot bat, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI and the Oaks’ lone home run of the game.
Nicole Larson (2-for-4) and Kayla Cisneroz (2-for-3) each chipped in multi-hit efforts as well. Larson scored twice while Cisneroz scored once and drove in a trio of runs. McKenna Vega and Cisneroz each had doubles.
In game two, the Oaks bats stayed hot and again scored early and often. Menlo scored two in the first then exploded for a six-run inning, its biggest of the day, in the second to break the game wide open.
La Sierra responded with a run in the third, but the Oaks answered with three more in the fourth. A La Sierra three-spot in the fifth threatened to extend the game but Menlo added one in the fifth to walk it off in run-rule fashion.
Menlo had 10 total hits in the game with six of them coming from the bats of Mary Hall, Nicole Larson and McKenna Vega who each had two this. Hall finished 2-for-3 with two runs, Larson was 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI and Vega was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs. Emmeline Wang hammered a three-run home run and Regan Rudisill had a double to account for Menlo’s two extra base hits.
The action returns back to Wunderlich Field in Atherton for a Monday afternoon doubleheader to conclude the four-game conference series. Game one is set to start at noon.
