CCS Championships , Locals reach semifinals

Three local wrestlers advanced to the semifinals of the Central Coast Section Championships on Frida at Independence High in San Jose and will compete for State Meet berths on Saturday. Titles will be decided starting at 7 p.m.

Gunn senior Ian Cramer, the top seed at 138 pounds, advanced by pinning Ismael Medina of San Benito-Hollister at 1:51 and Omar Droubi of Half Moon Bay at 1:34. Cramer made it three straight pins when he put David Alonso of Sacred Heart Cathedral on his back in 1:26. Cramer improved to 29-1 this year with 24 pins.

James Giaccia of Palo Alto, the No. 6 seed at 126, won an 8-0 major decision over Joshua Garnica of Sobrato before pinning Orion Bautista of Pacific Grove in 29 seconds. Giaccia pinned Anthony Pacheco of Palma in 4:56.

Unseeded Donald La Haye of Menlo-Atherton reached the 182-pound semifinals after upsetting No. 3 seed Anthony Jimenez in the quarterfinals with an 8-6 decision. La Haye, the PAL champion, pinned Ares Johnson of Pioneer in 2:43 to begin the day. La Haye backed it up with an 8-7 decision over Doug Peyser of Scotts Valley.
