Palo Alto Lady Vikings hosted the Santa Clara Bruins on Thursday, Santa Clara had handed Palo Alto their only loss of the season 3 weeks ago. Paly avenged the previous defeat by winning in a 9-2 romp.
In the 11th minute Aoi Sugihara released Nika Woodfill down the left flank, Woodfill cut inside and put her shot just inside the far post for a 1-0 Paly lead. 5 minutes later Sugihara once again released Woodfill down the left flank and Woodfill got off another shot that found the back of the net doubling the Paly lead. In the 18th minute Sugihara took off on a run and was barged over in the penalty area, Jacey Pederson buried the resulting penalty kick and Paly was ahead 3-0. As the half was winding down Paly kept up the pressure. In the 39th minute Jacey Pederson weaved across the top of the penalty area and finally created room for a shot that fooled the keeper and went in at the left post. Then in the 40th minute, Natalie Maloney found Katie Foug's run and Foug avoided the keeper who had come out and she passed the ball into the goal for a 5-0 Palo Alto lead.
Palo Alto rested several starters starting the second half. Santa Clara got on the board on a penalty kick by Jenna Murphy, in the 51st minute that Linnae Carlstrom could not stop, cutting Paly's lead to 5-1. 4 minutes later, Alison Lu got onto an Aoi Sugihara free kick and chipped the ball over the keeper, 6-1 Paly. In the 63rd minute Heidi Moeser won a ball near the top of the box and she dropped it back to Natalie Maloney who then found the back of the goal for a 7-1 Paly lead. 5 minutes later Heidi once again held up the ball and then released Katie Foug down the left channel, Katie cut inside the defender and put her shot inside the right post for a 8-1 Paly lead. In 79th minute Talia Malchin worked down the right flank and created space for a cross that Heidi Moeser scored with header, redirecting the ball inside the far post, putting Paly ahead 9-1. Santa Clara finished the scoring on another penalty kick in to 80th minute. Haley Levene put the ball past Sarah Lim for the final score of 9-2.
