The Menlo School girls remained tied for first place in the West Bay Athletic League (Foothill Division) soccer race with a 3-1 win over visiting King's Academy on Thursday. Menlo (2-0, 5-2-3) tallied once in the first half with Leah Swig's scoring into the far corner on a 15-yard shot off a nice assist from Alexandra Walker in the 25th minute. The two seniors teamed again in the second half's 20th minute when Walker fed Swig, who connected from 10 yards out. Walker created Menlo's third goal when she penetrated off the dribble and slotted the ball to Julia Wang, who converted from close range. King's scored in the 34th minute off a 23-yard direct kick from Jett Hayward.
Menlo's Schuyler Tilney-Volk had six saves in goal, including two excellent ones. Claire McFarland and Tess Batchelder led the Menlo defense.
