Michel Siaba tallied a second-half goal off an assist from Ariya Momoney to lift the Palo Alto boys to a 1-0 soccer victory over host Monta Vista in SCVAL De Anza Division action on Tuesday. The victory moved the Vikings to 2-0 in league (6-1-2 overall) and kept them tied atop the standings. Paly had a barrage of shots and crosses in the first 20 minutes, but most were saved by the Monta Vista keeper. The next 20 minutes were evenly played although Monta Vista had no shots on goal and there were no saves.
The second half continued with Paly having opportunities by either not getting the shot off or not converting on the opportunity. Monta Vista tried to counter attack with quick through balls. Paly finally broke through in the latter part of the game when Momoney put a ball through the gap and Siaba took on both the Monta Vista back and the keeper. He neatly finessed the ball past the diving Monta Vista goalie. The Paly midfield, along with Siaba, was key to the victory. Wesly Woo and Derrick Schoenberger anchored the midfield while Dami Bolarinwa and Cole Tierney worked the midfield and the flanks.
