The Menlo School girls opened their West Bay Athletic League (Foothill Division) soccer season with a 4-1 win over host Harker on Tuesday. The Knights (1-0, 4-2-3) jumped on top, 1-0, in the 14th minute when senior Leah Swig scored from close range off a cross from junior Zoe Enright. Alexandra Walker created the Knights' second goal by beating two defenders off the dribble and then arcing in an 18-yard shot. In the first five minutes of the second half, Menlo scored twice. First, sophomore Emily Demmon passed to Enright, who connected from 18 yards out. Then, Demmon scored on a looping 20-yard shot from outside. Harker's Kailee Gifford scored on a breakaway in the 27th minute. Seniors Katie Keller and Lizzie Lacy led the Menlo defensive effort.
