The Menlo School girls snapped a tie with two minutes left in the game to defeat defending Southern California Regional champion Francis Parker, 3-2, in nonleague soccer action Friday in San Diego. Menlo senior co-captain Alexandra Walker scored after a breakaway, then a 15-yard shot after taking a pass from Leah Swig. Menlo improved to 2-2-3 and plays Escondido Charter at noon Saturday.
Menlo took an early lead when four minutes in, Walker passed to Zoe Enright who scored from 18 yards out. The Lancers (2-4-2) tied the game with 11 minutes to go before halftime. In the second half, senior co-captain Jamie Corley passed to Swig who scored from 12 yards, and put the Knights ahead 2-1 seven minutes into the period. Parker knotted the game again with 11 minutes to go.
The Knights got a true all-around team effort, led by Enright, Walker and Swig. Fullback Claire McFarland pulled out some key stops and made some big clears. In her first game since taking 10th place at the national cross-country championship, Lizzie Lacy manned the goal for the Knights, making 11 saves.
