Varsity Boys Soccer
Palo Alto 2, Gilroy 1
Date of competition: Saturday, December 20, 2014
The Palo Alto boys wrapped up their 2014 preseason soccer schedule with a big 2-1 victory over perennial power Gilroy in the Oak Grove Tournament on Saturday in San Jose. This was an evenly played game with neither team having many shots until Paly's Michel Siaba and Ed Chen combined to score the first goal. The Vikings (3-1-2) had a defensive lapse in the second half as Gilroy continued to control the ball in the first 15 minutes. The Mustangs tied the game in the 10th minute. Paly controlled the ball for most the remaining half, with several near-scoring chances. The winning goal game came when Chen beat Gilroy's right back to the end line and put a nice cross to the waiting Cole Tierney. Palo Alto finished 2-1-1 in the tourney.
