Menlo-Atherton saw its football season come to a thudding end in a 41-8 loss to top seed and host Salinas in a Central Coast Section Division I playoff opener on Friday night. The No. 8-seeded Bears (3-8) hurt themselves throughout the game by being flagged 14 times for 132 penalty yards. Junior quarterback Robby Beardsley also suffered two interceptions and lost a fumble. Adding to their misery was a running attack that was limited to just 61 yards on 25 carries, an average of 2.4 yards per carry. Sophomore Stavro Papadakis led M-A with 28 yards on 10 carries. He scored the lone touchdown in the third period and added a two-point conversion.

With the run game struggling, Beardsley was forced to take to the air. He three 39 times and completed 20 for 246 yards. Junior Chase DelRosso had 100 receiving yards on three catches with junior Ben Stanley catching seven passes for 52 yards. Eight different receivers had receptions. Defensively, senior Jason Wagner picked off two passes to highlight the Bears' effort against the Cowboys, who grabbed a 27-0 halftime lead.
