Perfection is the name of the game for the nationally No. 10-ranked Stanford women's soccer team, which remained unbeaten through the first two weeks of the season following a 3-0 victory over visiting No. 15 Boston College on Sunday. The Cardinal (3-0) earned its second shutout of the season while dropping BC to 2-1. Freshman Teresa Noyola from Palo Alto High and sophomore Christen Press each scored their third goals of the season, while freshman Lindsay Taylor from Castilleja notched one goal and one assist. The Cardinal will hit the road this week for its first road games, traveling to Athens, Ga., for the Georgia/Nike Invitational. The Cardinal will play Auburn in the first matchup of Friday's doubleheader and No. 19 Georgia in the second contest on Sunday. Against Boston College, eight Stanford players were credited with involvement on the three goals. Stanford again got things going early, as Press scored her third of the season just 3:23 into the game. Redshirt junior Hillary Heath and junior Kelley O'Hara were credited with assisting Press, who fired the ball into the back of the net from 25 yards out. The Cardinal was relentless on the attack, knocking in a second goal in the eighth minute. Senior Marisa Abegg found Taylor in the box, who passed it over to fellow rookie Noyola, who then lofted the ball over the goalie and into the back of the net for her third tally of the season. After halftime, play again was very physical and evenly matched until the 61st minute, when the Eagles' Brianna Wilson-Byrne was given a red card and sent off for taking down O'Hara on the breakaway. Stanford took advantage of being a player up, firing eight shots in the half after Byrne's dismissal and in the 73rd minute found the back of the net for its third and final goal of the match. Sophomore Morgan Redman found junior Ali Riley in the midfield. Riley then brought the ball up the left sideline all the way to the goal line and launched a cross into the penalty area where Taylor bodied the ball into the net for her second goal of the season.
