The Palo Alto Babe Ruth 14-year-old all-star team advanced to the single-elimination portion of the World Series with a 13-0 dismantling of host Quincy, Mass., on Wednesday. Travis McHugh got the pitching win, combining with Graham Marchant and Matt Eastman on a three-hitter over five innings. Palo Alto blasted 16 hits, with Sam Falkenhagen (double) and BJ Boyd (triple) leading the way. Palo Alto finished pool play with a 3-1 record, the same as Tallahassee (Fla.), which handed Palo Alto its only loss. Because of that tiebreaker, Palo Alto finishes second in the American Division and will play Thursday against the third-place team from the National Division. The championship game is Saturday.
