The Oaks (2-4-2) kicked off a two-match, three-day southern California road trip with a tough 3-1 loss at the hands of Cal Pac South leading Marymount (4-3-1) on Friday afternoon in Rancho Palos Verdes.

Marymount applied constant pressure throughout the match, outshooting Menlo 18-4, and eventually got a pair of crucial goals in the second half to seal the deal and collect the conference win.

The first goal of the match came seconds into the action. After the quick goal, the Oaks settled in and eventually found the equalizer in the form of a Sean Kane goal in the 22nd minute.

The goal was the second of the season and second in the last three matches for the Menlo senior who has been battling injuries early on.

Unfortunately for the navy and white, the Kane goal in the 22nd minute would stand as their lone score of the match. Kane’s shot was one of just two shots on goal for the Oaks.

Friday’s match was the lone regular season meeting of the year between these two teams.

Next up for the Oaks is a Sunday afternoon Cal Pac clash with Soka University of America (5-2, 1-0). Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. Following that match, Menlo will return home for a two-match home stand starting on Friday with a non-conference tilt against UC San Marcos.
