The Palo Alto Babe Ruth 14-year-old all-stars made local history by earning a berth in the World Series with an 8-2 victory over Torrance in the championship game of the Pacific Southwest Regional on Wednesday at Baylands Athletic Center. Since the Babe Ruth program began in Palo Alto in 1958, no team had ever qualified for the World Series until Wednesday. Palo Alto trailed early but tied the game, 2-2. Torrance had two runners on in the fourth, but didn't score. Palo Alto now advances to the Babe Ruth World Series in Quincy, Mass.
