The Redwood City Blues became the only undefeated team remaining in the American Legion Area 2 Tournament at Palo Alto's Baylands Athletic Center with a 4-3 triumph over defending champion San Mateo on Monday night. The victory moves the Blues into Tuesday's semifinals against once-beaten Burlingame at 7:30 p.m. Should Redwood City win, it will play for the title on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. If the Blues lose, they will advance to the challenge game on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Redwood City trailed 3-1 before rallying against San Mateo in the eighth. Menlo School grad Ryan Morris led off the eighth with a single and stole second. After pinch-hitter Curt Vail struck out looking (one of seven such strikeouts for Redwood City, and one of 12 total), Stanford-bound Jack Mosbacher, another Menlo grad, was intentionally walked to create a forceout situation. The Blues got another single followed by a single by Kenny Diekroeger to tie the game at 3. After catcher (and Menlo grad) Anthony Bouvier popped up, Sacred Heart Prep grad Eric Davila provided a clutch two-out at-bat, singling to right field to give the Blues their first lead of the game at 4-3.
