Smit 100 free, Olympic trials

Stanford junior Julia Smit swam 54.67 in the semifinals of the women's 100 free at the U.S. Olympic trials in Omaha on Thursday to qualify for the finals in the event. She was fifth-fastest in the semifinals after an eighth-place finish in Thursday morning's prelims. The top two will swim the event at the Olympics, while finishers three through six are likely to be named for the 400 free relay team.
