With sophomore Eli Givens winning three individual events and running a leg on the winning 400 relay, the Palo Alto boys won their first SCVAL De Anza Division dual meet of the track and field season with a 66-61 triumph over host Los Altos on Thursday. Givens took the 100 (11.19), edged teammate Nick Sullivan in the 200 (both clocked 22.40) and won the long jump (20-1) as the Vikings (1-4) held off the Eagles. Freshman Kent Slaney swept the 1,600 and 3,200, getting under 10 minutes in the metric two-miler with a solid 9:58.87. The meet came down to the final 1,600 relay, with Palo Alto running away with the victory in 3:26.54, just off their season best (3:26.40) that ranks No. 3 in the Central Coast Section this season.
