The No. 2-seeded Palo Alto girls battled to a 1-1 deadlock with No. 10 Alisal (14-5-1) before winning in penalty kicks, 4-1, in Central Coast Section Division I soccer quarterfinal action Saturday at Valley Christian in San Jose. Palo Alto tied the score in the 72nd minute when sophomore Alison Lu got the ball on the far right corner, dribbled past the defense and fired a shot that deflected off the goalkeeper. Paly junior Katie Foug alertly kicked the ball in, sending the match into overtime. Palo was well-prepared for the penalty kick session as the Vikings had practiced for such a scenario all week. The Vikings (11-4-5) next will face SCVAL De Anza Division rival Los Gatos (10-4-5) on Wednesday at Westmont High at 7 p.m. The Wildcats are the No. 3 seed and last played the Vikings to a 2-2 to end the regular season.
