Melisa Koutz drilled a home run in the top of the 10th and Missy Penna struck out the side in the bottom of the 10th and the Stanford softball team walked away with a dramatic, 2-1, victory over host Arizona State in a Pac-10 contest on Thursday. Rosey Neill also homered for the Cardinal (11-8, 46-10), her 20th of the season. Koutz homered for the first time in her collegiate career. Penna (34-9) struck out 17 for a single-game school record, while also setting a single-season mark, ending the night with 370. She also tied Dana Sorensen for the single-season win record. The Cardinal travels to Arizona for a 7 p.m. game on Friday and an afternoon affair in Saturday.

Meilsa Koutz homered on an 0-2 pitch from Arizona State's All-American pitcher. The Sun Devils had the bases loaded with two outs in the ninth. Penna threw a wild pitch, but was able to recover and make the play at home for the final out.
