The Sacred Heart Prep boys' tennis team avenged last season's shocking upset to Bellarmine by knocking off those same Bells, 5-2, on Wednesday in the semifinals of the Central Coast Section team tournament at Courtside Tennis Club in Los Gatos. The Gators (23-3) swept the No. 2-4 singles in straight sets and held a 3-2 lead before senior Erik Blumenkranz clinched the victory in a three-set match at No. 1 singles. Shortley thereafter, SHP's No. 1 doubles team of John Parsons and John Michael Hansen finished their match with a victory in three sets. Sacred Heart now advances to Friday's CCS championship match at Courtside, which starts at 2 p.m. The Gators will meet the winner of the other semifinal between No. 4 Menlo (19-5) and No. 1 Saratoga (18-1). In last season's CCS semifinals, Sacred Heart took a 26-0 record against the Bells, but was upset, 4-3. This time it was Bellarmine bringing in an unbeaten mark (22-0) before having its season end with just one loss. By reaching Friday's finale, the Gators have earned a berth into the Nothern California playoffs to be held at UC Davis on May 15-16.
