Menlo-Atherton saw its hopes for an automatic berth into the Central Coast Section playoffs fade away following a 2-0 loss to first-place Burlingame in PAL Bay Division girls' soccer action Tuesday. The Bears (5-4-2, 9-4-4) started strong and dominated the possession early. But, it was Burlingame (7-0-4, 10-1-5) that found the net in the 23rd minute when Kelsey Andrews put a beautiful ball through to Alexis Prieto, who finished with a great shot to the upper- left corner for the 1-0 lead. The Bears had many chances and got off at least six shots, but could not convert. The first half ended with the Panthers ahead 1-0.

In the second half, Burlingame came out strong and found the net a second time when a speedy Alysse Le Mond beat a defender down the right sideline to get a cross off. The cross was finished with a great one touch shot from Anika Rianzares for the 2-0 lead. M-A goalkeeper Jacqueline Foody made a great save over the top later in the half. Both sides continued to battle with each side creating opportunities. The Panthers held on for the win.
