Varsity Girls Soccer
Menlo-Atherton 4, Sequoia 0
Date of competition: Tuesday, February 4, 2014
The Menlo-Atherton girls kept their PAL Bay Division girls' soccer title hopes alive with a 4-0 victory over visiting Sequoia on Tuesday. The Bears (5-2-2, 9-2-4) scored in the 10th minute when senior Cayla Stillman found freshman forward Katie Guenin on a beautiful through ball. Guenin dribbled toward the goal before unselfishly passing the ball off to senior Marilena McCarty, who finished for a 1-0 lead. The Bears scored again in the 25th minute when junior Annie Harrier fed sophomore Miranda Simes for a 2-0 half-time lead.
In the second half, Stillman seemed pinned in the corner with the ball, but somehow managed to find McCarty on a pass. McCarty then returned the favor to Guenin, who scored to put M-A ahead 3-0. After a nice give-and-go series with sophomore Talia Missan, Guenin crossed the ball to the middle where it was finished by junior Amanda Wiseman for the fourth and final goal of the match.
