The Menlo School boys soccer team defeated host Pinewood, 3-0, in West Bay Athletic League on Friday in Los Altos Hills. The Knights (8-3-3 overall, 6-1-1 in league) started the game well but were unable to take a lead despite their advantage in possession as they often found themselves thwarted by a stubborn Pinewood defense. Sophomore forward Tyler McGraw and sophomore defender turned midfielder Andrew Arnold each had a few chances on goal but were unable to convert.
Menlo was much more assertive in the second half and soon found the breakthrough they were looking for. Arnold served a dangerous ball into the box that junior midfielder Peter Rosston collected before beating a few defenders and finding the side netting. A few minutes later senior forward Kevin Walker fed McGraw in the box and he finished with a fierce shot into the top corner. Walker then scored his first goal of the year on a set piece after good service from sophomore defender Michael Quezada. Junior goalie Alex Moore kept a clean sheet for his fifth league shutout and third in the last four games.
