The Menlo boys' tennis team opened defense of its Central Coast Section title by dispatching visiting Leland on Friday, 6-1. The Knights (18-5) next will host a quarterfinal match on Monday, likely against Palo Alto, at 3 p.m. Menlo made quick work of Leland as Jamin Ball won at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-2; Daniel Hoffman posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2, Max Glenn won at No. 3, 6-1, 6-0, and Patrick Chase registered a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at No. 4. The Knights took the top two doubles matches with the tandems of Ryan Duggal-Andrew Carlisle and Eric Sum-Tim Hoag also winning. Sum and Hoag were the only Menlo players forced beyond two sets, winning 2-6, 6-2, 10-8.
