Varsity Boys Soccer
King's 1, Menlo School 1
Date of competition: Friday, January 17, 2014
The Menlo School boys soccer team had to settle for a 1-1 draw with host King's Academy on Friday in West Bay Athletic League action. The Knights fell to 2-1-1 in league (4-3-3 overall). Menlo started the game well and was in front after 20 minutes when sophomore striker Will Chisholm latched onto a brilliant through ball from senior captain John Strong and beat the King's keeper with a powerful shot. The rest of the half was quite physical with numerous borderline challenges in midfield. The second half played out similarly to the first, with the narrow sandy King's field often making it hard for Menlo to deploy its intricate passing and the game devolving into a series of dangerous tackles in midfield. King's leveled the score midway through the second half on a free kick from just outside the Menlo box. The teams ultimately had to settle for a draw which seemed a fair result given how the game played out.
