Palo Alto gave five-time defending champ Mountain View a scare in SCVAL De Anza Division boys' soccer action before dropping a 3-2 decision on Friday. The host Vikings fell behind by 1-0 in the 34th minute on a goal by Edi Aguilar. The Spartans (2-1, 8-2-1) made it a 2-0 match when Jim Radford scored two minutes later. (Paly (1-1-1, 5-4-2) closed the gap three minutes into the second half when Cina Vazir scored an unassisted goal. Mountain View made it 3-1 when Jason Floyer scored eight minutes later, but Paly bounced back in the 28th minute when Xavier Sherer scored off an assist from Dami Bolarinwa.
"This turned into a close game with Paly having a couple of opportunities in the last few minutes," said Paly coach Don Briggs.
Mountain View clearly outplayed Paly in the first half with Paly having only one shot on goal. The game was more even in the second half. Mt View's winning goal game on a nice corner kick that was acrobatically placed past a Paly defender and the keeper.
