Varsity Girls Soccer
Pinewood 4, Notre Dame-SJ 1
Date of competition: Saturday, January 11, 2014
The Pinewood girls won their first West Bay Athletic League (Foothill Division) soccer match with a 4-1 victory over visiting Notre Dame-San Jose on Saturday. The Panthers grabbed a 1-0 halftime lead on a goal by Etelle Stephan in the 31st minute on a nice unassisted and unopposed shot from about 20 yards out. She scored the second goal (unassisted) in the 52nd minute before Olivia Biggs scored on a header (following a corner kick form Nicole Colonna) in the 58th minute. Notre Dame got their lone goal in the 60th minute before Olivia Biggs scored again in the 65th minute, this time after a well-played assist from Jordan Berke as Pinewood moved to 1-2 in league (2-9 overall).
"We can feel good about the way we played today," said Pinewood coach Michael Tetzlaff. "Notre Dame gave us some room, and we roamed around, taking shots, coming over the wings and crossing the ball, and unlike the game against Castilleja on Thursday where we played even more decisively, this time we backed it up with goals."
