Menlo School battled back from a 1-0 deficit to tie host Sacred Heart Prep, 1-1, in a West Bay Athletic League (Foothill Division) girls' soccer match on Thursday. The Knights are 0-0-1 (4-3-2) while the Gators are now 1-0-1 (6-1-2). Menlo senior midfielder Amanda McFarland's 25-yard shot just under the crossbar in the 30th minute of the second half rallied the defending WBAL champions to a draw with the rival Gators. SHP had gone ahead in the 57th minute of the second half on a well-placed shot by Alex Bourdillion off an assist by Olivia Athens. The game was hard-fought and physical. The momentum swung back and forth with both teams creating a few good scoring opportunities. Menlo sophomore keeper Schuyler Tilney-Volk had seven saves. Menlo's strong overall team effort was led by senior midfielder Chandler Wickers and the back line of juniors Alexandra Walker, Tess Batchelder, Lizzie Lacy and freshman Claire McFarland.
