The Menlo School boys soccer team emerged from halftime firing with Will Chisholm scoring the first of his three second-half goals, and the Knights wrapped up a 4-0 home victory over Pinewood in a league opener Wednesday. The Knights improved to 3-2-2 overall in a kickoff of West Bay Athletic League competition. Chisholm, a sophomore, got the offense going minutes into the second half, taking Andrew Arnold’s throw-in for a 1-0 lead. Menlo and Pinewood were locked in a 0-0 draw five minutes until five minutes into the second half.

“We really upped our intensity and started talking a lot more,” Chisholm said. “In the first half, the field was silent, but we started talking more and connecting on our passes. It really pushed our momentum.”

Four minutes later, Jackson Wagner had consecutive shots two minutes apart -- one just wide and the other tipped by the goalie. The Knights widened the lead when Efe Sarinalbant drew a foul in the box and fellow senior Justin Wang followed his penalty kick with a rebound goal with 22 minutes left in the game. In the second half, Menlo kept the ball largely on its half of the field, but midway through, Alex Moore made a save on a rebound himself.

With 12 minutes remaining, Chisholm launched his second shot into the left upper corner of the net, and less than a minute later, took the feed from Kevin Walker for the fourth and final goal.

“We got the one and then pressed hard off the kickoff,” Chisholm said. “Things came together at the right time.”
