Menlo School opened play in the Burlingame Girls Soccer Tournament with a 4-1 victory over Sequoia at Burlingame High on Friday. The Knights (1-0-1) jumped in front on junior Leah Swig's well-placed 16-yard shot into the corner of the goal on an assist from senior Amanda McFarland in the 14th minute. Sequoia equalized at the close of the half on Sarah Huber's goal off a corner kick. Menlo dominated the second-half by scoring three goals and not allowing Sequoia a single shot on goal. Again it was Swig in the fifth minute with a nice goal off a great assist by junior JamieCorley. Senior Chandler Wickers then scored on an accurate shot into the corner from 12 yards out off a beautiful feed by Swig in the 12th minute. Corley then connected nicely from 12 yards out off a great pass from Wickers. Menlo's defense was led by freshman Claire McFarland, junior Tess Batchelder, and junior Alexandra Walker.
