Palo Alto stayed close for a half, but let the game get away after that and dropped a 45-21 decision to top-seeded St. Francis in a Central Coast Section Division II semifinal on Friday night in Mountain View. The No. 5-seeded Vikings (6-6) got a 98-yard kickoff return from Malcolm Davis with less than a minute to play in the half and trailed by only 28-21 at intermission. Paly quarterback Keller Chryst had 255 passing yards and two TDs before intermission. He threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Keesean Johnson to being Paly to within 21-14 and earlier tied the game at 7 after connecting with sophomore Eli Givens on a 71-yard scoring play. Chryst, who was picked off twice in the first half, was kept in check in the second half -- finishing with 286 yards -- as the Lancers (9-3) rolled into the CCS finals, where they will face No. 2 seed Los Gatos next Saturday. For Paly, its .500 record is the worst since the team went 5-5 in 2002. This was only the second time the Vikings and Lancers have met in CCS postseason play and the series is now 1-1.
