Serbia 3, Team USA 1
Date of competition: Saturday, August 31, 2013
The U.S. Men's Junior National Team fell to Serbia, 26-24, 25-22, 19-25, 26-24, in the teams' second matchup at the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Under-21 World Championship on Saturday in Izmir, Turkey.
The United States drops to 3-4 and will next face Canada for 11th place on Sunday.
The MJNT converted 41.90 percent of its attacks to points, while Serbia converted 41.13 percent. The teams were tied in aces (6) and errors (28), and the MJNT led in blocks (17-11).
"Our players are getting closer and closer to really understanding about the game and how it is played; the momentum shifts and how they have to play at the end of the game." U.S. coach Pete Hanson said. "When they fully understand that, we will be a very good team. We are at the end of the tournament so we are clearly running out of time."
Stanford sophomore James Shaw saw limited action in the first set.
