The U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team lost to Brazil, 25-19, 25-12, 25-10, in the opening FIVB World Grand Prix Final Round match Wednesday afternoon at the Hokkaido Prefectural Sports Center in Sapporo, Japan.
Team USA, which is seeking to become the first squad to win the premier annual women’s international volleyball tournament for a fourth consecutive year, continues the round-robin Final Round format against Serbia on Thursday.
Nicole Fawcett led the U.S. in scoring with seven kills, two blocks and an ace for 10 points. Stanford grad Kristin Richards Hildebrand added four kills and a block for five points. Hildebrand also had a team-high eight digs.
U.S.coach Karch Kiraly started Hildebrand at outside hitter, while Stanford grad Cassidy Lichtman was a sub in the first and third sets.
