Ululani Reyes, a softball player from Menlo College with a 3.66 GPA, was named the California Pacific Conference Women's Scholar Athlete of the Year as selected by the conference's executive committee. The award is the highest honor presented to a student-athlete in the Cal Pac.
Commissioner Don Ott said, "Ululani stands out on her campus and was outstanding in all she accomplished in her career. We are all impressed by the leadership she showed in reaching her community while making an impact academically and being such a fine softball player. I congratulate her and all the other exceptional young women who were nominated. They each represent what is best about the California Pacific Conference and the NAIA."
The Kaneohe, Hawaii, native started all four years of her collegiate career for the Oaks at shortstop. She was an all-Cal Pac selection for the 2013 season, while also earning a national Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete award. The highly acclaimed young woman also was also awarded Menlo College's Collis Steere Award and F. Philler Curtis Female Scholar, Leader and Athlete Award.
For her efforts in the classroom, Reyes graduated tops in her liberal arts degree, with Cum Laude recognition, and made the Dean's List for all four years of her collegiate career. She also received the Don Jordan Scholarship in 2012.
She was involved in multiple student leadership positions, including managing the student union and coordinating the student gym. She also left her mark as an edition of the campus newspaper her senior year, along with serving as an orientation leader and peer counselor.
In the community, Reyes was involved in the Bay Area Women's Sports Initiative (BAWSI), the Merv Lopes Holiday Hoop Classic, the American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Walk, the Pacifica Beach Coalition, Habitat ReStore, Second Harvest Food Bank and Save The Bay. She was also a notetaker for the Academic Success Center and was heavily involved in recycling.
To be nominated for this prestigious honor, a Cal Pac student-athlete is to have completed their athletic eligibility while making a significant contribution to their team, accomplish excellence in the classroom, participate in and exhibit the five core values of the NAIA Champions of Character, and be involved in the community and on their campuses.
