The No. 2-seeded Menlo School girls' soccer team lost out on an opportunity to possibly defend its Central Coast Section Division III title after dropping a semifinal match in penalty kicks to No. 6 Harbor on Wednesday at Menlo-Atherton High. The Knights (13-3-6) and Pirates (8-6-7) played to 0-0 deadlock in regulation and through the first of two 10-minute overtimes. Harbor broke the ice with about 7:30 left in the second OT, but Menlo equalized on a crucial goal by junior Emma LaPorte. The second OT ended in a 1-1 tie, sending the match to penalty kicks. There, the Pirates made four while the Knights had two shots blocked, sending Harbor in Saturday's section title match and Menlo home for the season.
