Date of competition: Friday, February 22, 2013
On Friday, Menlo (8-10) kicked off their challenging Southern California road trip with a doubleheader split against Vanguard (7-8).
Justine Roscoe collected the win in game one for the Lady Oaks. Roscoe scattered 8 hits over 6 innings, allowing just 1 run while striking out 4 and walking 1.
Tricia Davidson worked a scoreless inning in relief to garner her first save of the season.
In game two, the Lady Oaks were shut out 8-0 in the run-shortened 5 inning affair.
In the first game, after falling behind 1-0, Menlo tied the game with a run in the top of the third.
Alyssa Holland led off with a double to left-center, but was gunned down at third trying to stretch the double into a triple.
With one out, Mary Hall reached on an error to bring up Ululani Reyes. Reyes also reached on an error, the second of the inning, to put runners at first and second. Hall would eventually come in to score the tying run when Kayla Cisneroz shot an RBI single into centerfield.
The Lady Oaks took the lead in the top of the fourth when Nicole Larson and Rachel Hammack led the inning off with back-to-back singles. Both Larson and Hammack moved up on a passed ball. Larson came in to score on a botched pickoff attempt at second.
