Stanford grad Jed Lowrie is in camp with the Oakland Athletics, ready to compete for the shortstop job with Hiroyuki Nakajima.

"That's why I'm here," Lowrie said. "I feel good. You put in the time to rehab because you know baseball will be at the end of the road."

In five previous major league seasons with the Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros, Lowrie has yet to play a full season. He sees that changing.

"I know I haven't been healthy or in a game since last year but I am feeling healthy," he said.

Lowrie was not in the A's starting lineup Saturday but is expected to play on Sunday.
