After picking up a forfeit win over ICA to finish the West Bay Athletic League (Skyline Division) season with a 13-0-1 record, the Pinewood girls' soccer team suffered a 4-2 loss to host King's Academy in a playoff game to determine the WBAL's fourth team for the Central Coast Section playoffs. The Panthers finished the regular season at 14-4-2.

"The first half was disastrous," said Pinewood coach Michael Tetzlaff, whose team fell being 4-0 at halftime. "We never found our rhythm. King's played their game to which we has no answer. At halftime, we promised ourselves to win that half, and lo and behold, the girls came out strong, pressured King's and put them on their heels."

Pinewood scored twice within five minutes (61st and 65th minutes) to get back into the match. Freshman Amrita Mecker tallied a goal on a corner kick by Nicole Colonna and freshman Kelly Branson took an assist from Colonna and made it a 4-2 match.

"But, in the end, it was not enough," Tetzlaff said. "It was good to see though that the team fought back and prided itself on wanting to not give up without a fight and then doing it."

Whether or not Pinewood gets an at-large berth for the CCS Division III playoffs, the Panthers still will be elevated to the Foothill Division for next season.
