A short-handed Menlo School boys' dropped a 2-0 nonleague decision to visiting Sacred Heart Cathedral, a defending CCS champion, in a hard-fought match Wednesday. Missing two of their captains as they prepare for the football team's CCS final on Saturday, the Knights were tested early by a strong Irish team. SHC ultimately took the lead midway through the first half on a fierce shot from 20 yards out and added a second in the dying minutes of the first half.

Menlo battled back in the second half, dominating possession and moving the ball well but were unable to get the goal it needed to get them back in the game. Justin Wang had Menlo's best chance on a header off a corner from John Strong that the goalie did well to save. Menlo's Ryan Karle was dangerous throughout the game combining with Andrew Schmitt but they were unable to find the breakthrough. Glenn Baxter gave a solid performance playing out of position in goal.
