The Bears got their season off to a good start by taking the lead on a goal by Monika Richardson midway through the first half off a free kick scramble in front of the goal. At 34 minutes, M-A's senior Dana Gornick converted the first of three awarded penalty kicks for a 2-0 lead.

Menlo answered when sophomore Jamie Corley scored from close range off a cross by sophomore Alexandra Walker at 37 minutes. At the 20-minute mark of the second half, M-A 's Talia Missan converted another PK for what would be the winning goal. On the ensuing kickoff, Menlo's Chandler Wickers and Sienna Stritter dribbled and passed the ball directly down the field with Stritter scoring from 15 yards out to make it 3-2. At 34 minutes again, M-A was awarded a penalty kick and Gornick scored her second goal.
