Varsity Boys Tennis
Saratoga 4, Menlo 3
Date of competition: Wednesday, March 12, 2008
In a nonleague battle between two Central Coast Section title-contending teams, defending section champion Menlo fell to visiting Saratoga on Wednesday, 4-3. "It was a very good, very close match," said Menlo coach Bill Shine. "We're getting a little better in doubles, but we've got to get a lot better if we think we're going to repeat." Saratoga took three of four singles matches in straight sets, with Menlo sophomore Jamin Ball breaking through at No. 2 with a 6-1, 6-4 win. "Jamin, as usual, is playing great," Shine said. The Knights were able to win at No. 1 doubles (Ryan Duggal and Andrew Carlisle) and No. 2 doubles (Eric Sum and Ads Rosenkranz), but the Falcons pulled out No. 3 doubles for the win. Menlo (4-2) will be tested again on Friday when it travels less than a mile to face neighborhood rival Sacred Heart Prep at 3:30 p.m.
