The Paly JV Girls Water Polo team met their rival, Gunn, in a tough game Tuesday night. Gunn won 9-8, but it was a close call right up until the end. The first quarter started with 2 quick goals for Gunn and then with 50 seconds left in the first quarter Olivia Scola came in strong and scored for Paly. Scola scored again in the second quarter, but Gunn continued with their strong offense and ended the first half 2-4. In the third quarter, Gunn scored 3 more goals and almost scored another on a free throw, but Gigi Rojahn blocked it. Paly looked strong and had a couple very close goal attempts by Jacqueline Furrier and Gigi Rojahn until Olivia Scola closed in and scored to make it 3-7 Gunn. Heading into the fourth quarter things started to pick up for Paly and the game was moving fast. Gigi Rojahn and Sheila Subramanian scored within the first couple minutes of the quarter bringing the score to 5-7. With the Gunn lead narrowing, Gunn scored again, but was quickly met by a couple of Paly goals by Alina Drebin and a strong throw by goalie Meredith Kinnaman to Olivia Scola who scored and it was now 7-8 Gunn. The nail-biting fourth quarter continues with another Gunn goal, a free throw miss (deflected by Kinnaman) and a fabulous score by Paly Clarie Drebin to make the final score 8-9 Gunn. Both teams played a great game, but Paly could have used a few more seconds on the clock.
