If there was any doubt to which girls' tennis team had the inside track to the Central Coast Section title this season, it was put to rest on Wednesday as Monta Vista remained unbeaten at the expense of host Menlo School, 9-0, in a nonleague match. The teams played six singles and three doubles to mimic this weekend's National Invitational format in Dana Hills, where the Matadors and Knights both will compete.

"Monta Vista proved that they are the team to beat in NorCal," said Menlo School coach Bill Shine, whose team fell to 4-4 after dropping its second straight match. "The Matadors were just too strong and experienced for the Knights."

Monta Vista (10-0), which won the recent California Classic, handed Menlo arguably its worst defeat in years as only the No. 3 doubles team of senior Christine Kvamme and junior Paulina Golikova and No. 2 singles player Giannina Ong were able to win first sets.
