With a strong showing in both singles and doubles, the Menlo School girl's tennis team opened its season with a 7-0 nonleague victory over visiting Burlingame on Thursday. Entering his 17th season, Menlo coach Bill Shine liked what he saw against the Panthers.

"I'm very pleased with our effort and spirit," said Shine. "One of our goals was to improve a lot in doubles. I'm proud of them."

Sophomore Liz Yao got the ball rolling with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles. Junior Christine Eliazo notched a 6-4, 6-2 victory at second singles. Seniors Giannina Ong swept and Laura Gradiska won, 6-2, 6-0, at three and four singles.

Menlo sophomore Helena Ong and senior Sam Hoag sailed to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 doubles. Juniors Sarah Schinasi and Paulina Golikova teamed to win 6-4, 6-3, and sophomore Sadie Bronk and freshman Mia McConnell wrapped up a 6-1, 7-5 win at second and third doubles, respectively.
