Stanford grad Tony Azevedo scored six times to help the U.S. national men's water polo team down Hungary, 12-9, Sunday at Newport Harbor High.
Cardinal grad Laybe Beaubian also scored for the Americans in a rematch of the 2008 Beijing Olympics Gold Medal match.
It's the first time Team USA has beaten Hungary in at least 10 years according to a tweet by Cal grad and Olympic gold medalist Dana Vollmer.
The U.S. and Hungary meet again Thursday at UCLA as the teams prepare for the 2012 London Olympics. Croatia and the U.S. meet Friday at Rose Bowl Aquatics.
In related news, the U.S. women's water polo team open play at the FINA World League Super Final in Changshu, China on Tuesday with a match against the hosts.
The U.S. also plays Greece on Wednesday and Germany on Thursday before quarterfinals begin Friday.
